Source for HP Z3100 extra spindle 3 inch adaptors?
« on: February 25, 2007, 08:37:41 pm »

Folks,

I am planning to use at least 3 different kinds of papers with 24" Z3100, and while I found a number of places to get the extra ZX100 24IN Spindles (Q6700A), I could not find the 3" adapter kits for sale anywhere!  All paper I plan to use comes on 3" rolls, so I can't use extra spindles without extra 3" adapter kits.  Please advise!

Thanks for the link, but as far as I can tell they only sell the printer itself, inks, spindles, and a RIP.  I am looking for the 3" adaptor for the spindle, i.e., the two blue plastic gizmos you put on the spindle to properly hold 3" core paper roll.  It has just occurred to me that perhaps the spindle itself includes the adaptors?  Please advise!

Although the adaptors are in the box with the spindle that comes with the Z3100, any extra spindles you buy from HP do not have the adaptors. Bad. bad. bad. The spindles are reasonably priced at $63. But this price goes out the window because you have to pay $30/pair  for the adaptors. And they are only available from the HP parts store. You can't order them from the same sales rep that handles paper, ink, spindles, etc.The model number is C6090-60112 and while it does not list the Z series under compatible printers, I'm betting that that is due to the printers being new. I am ordering a pair to go with the extra spindle I ordered last week. Oh the joys of being an early adopter

Many thanks for all the help!  I just  ordered several at HP online store.  Two things of note.  First, several stores on the web are trying to price-gouge the heck out of this -- selling it for $100-$300, I kid you not.  Second, HP store does not work with Firefox -- have to use Internet Explorer.  I sure hope they test their pro printers better than their web interfaces.

Another option that works quite well is that some manufacturers provide a white plastic insert with their 3”cored papers. A lot of people chuck these but I collect them and they are sooooo much easier than the 3”spindal adaptors and a lot cheaper.

I find that a set of these will last 6-8 months.

Just got the adaptors today and they are not the same as what ships with the Z3100. They are 3 inches and you can force them to fit on the spindle, but they are obviously spec'd for different printers. HP emailed with another part number Q1271-60629 that they said is the correct one for the Z series. They are shipping it out free of charge and don't want the wrong ones back. My lucky day I suppose.

The HP web site provides no information for that part number, and fails to list the printer that the part is used for.

Have you received Q1271-60629 yet?  Is it the correct part?

It arrived yesterday and Q1271-60629 is indeed the correct part.
