Just got an email from adobe instructing me on how to get my complimentary version of lightroom.

So, I guess their emails are going out.

I got my email today, and, of course, their website wasn't accepting. I tried again an hour or so later and downloaded it just fine (for free -- Thank You RSP!) It installed with no problem. I'll try it later on.

The saga continues.

As someone who purchased RSP just days before the blankety-blank Pixmantec sell-out, I too got an e-mail, clicked on the supplied link (using Firefox), got to a page that said your serial number is [blank] and your platform is Windows. Please record your serial number; you will need it later.

Strangely, [blank] does not prove to be a valid Lightroom serial number.

After 10 minutes navigating Adobe's telephone support - Kenny G over a monoral land line is apparently thought by some demented soul to in some inscruable way lessen the pain - I learned that this is a known problem and that this known problem will be addressed by some unknown form of communication, possibly a second e-mail.

If you encounter the same problem don't bother clicking on the refresh button or trying a different browser. Perhaps the ONE thing Adobe is competent at is protecting its own interests. The moral of the story is that if you are an RSP owner expecting the free upgrade and you get the tantalizing email, better yet -

WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW.

My email arrived last night. Connected to the Adobe link got the number and downloaded the programme and installed without any problem. So one happy ex RSP owner (which is still there to use on my PC if required).

Hope now that the programme is stable see my earlier post about problems importing from CF card.

Hi Dale,

I had the same problem at first (no serial number). The solution was to use only lower case letters when typing in the e-mail address, even though my address has upper and lower case letters if written correctly.  So, it seems there is a mistake in the programming of the site - case sensitive vs. ignore case sensitivity.
Maybe that works for you as well.

However, I did not know that Lightroom works only with Windows XP. I still use Win 2000 and had not planned to change that until Vista is established for a while. Well, I got to burn a nice little CD with Lightroom on it :-))

Cheers,
Angela

Thanks, Angela! I did use all lower case yesterday, so that wasn't the problem. But re-tried today and did get a serial number.

I too, received the email. Followed the instructions without problem and now have a registered copy of Lightroom on my PC. Went to an Adobe presentation on it and CS3 yesterday.  I am very comfortable with my current workflow but I was impressed with what I saw and so will give Lightroom a serious try.

Cheers from Downunder.

Re Lightrooom RSP free version: If you are in the UK or Ireland, call Adobe on 0207 365 0733, and choose option 4 then option 0. Ask for Carl Timler. He will get you up and running if anyone can - a real gentleman.

I too am a licensed RSP user waiting for an email. Is there any effective way to contact Adobe?

In the credit where credit is due department, I'm impressed with LR's core raw conversion capabilities. For my two cameras - Panny LX1 and Pentax DS - I definitely prefer the color and tonal balance to RawShooter's, which I used to swear by. It's sometimes frightening how much less work I need to do in Photoshop compared to before. Also, I find when going over shoots in LR that I originally processed with RSP, I see value in images I skipped over in RSP because LR's defaults show them in a better light.

RawShooter's workflow still seems more suited to my modest needs than LR's Library module; but Library certainly gets the job done.

OK, you Pixmantec capitalists, I'm (grudgingly) willing to declare a truce ... at least until some future date when I buy a new camera and find I have to pay for an LR upgrade to support it. ;)
