Configuring source of Files
« on: February 09, 2007, 03:37:18 pm »

Hello All!
I am planning on building my photos library with Beta 4 and I am currently using the "Reference files in Existing Location" option. I am also planning on purchasing an external Hard drive which will harbor all my pictures, which currently sits on my C: drive. My question is, whether I can change the source of the library to the new location when I will copy all my files to the External Hard drive? I know it's better  to wait for the External drive, then do the copy and build the library, but I want to save time.
10x for your time!

Chen,

Beware that version 1 will no longer have "shoots", so don't waste time now in organizing your library.  Instead of shoots, v.1 will use a browser-like organization, that is, the folder structure of the disk will be used in LR.  Also, v.1 will be all "references" which won't impact you.  If you haven't yet done any work in defining your library with Beta 4, my advice is to wait for v.1.  Also check the pricing, it's $100 off until April or some such time.  (Student price will be $99.)

There have been numerous folks asking how to migrate over to v.1 from Beta 4, and a number of strategies have been described in the Adobe fora.  Try the following:

(above is the "new" forum), and the old forum, still active, by dying.
