mamiya 35mm AF lens
« on: January 19, 2007, 07:32:03 am »

I can't find any reviews on this lens and I'm thinking of getting one, does anyone have any experience with it?

i own the lens....it is ok...not the best...maybe i am spoiled by the rollei 40mm schneider....this lens reminds me a little bit of the canon WAs (not quite as bad) it could be better...sharpness is good, there is CA and some distortions...i guess normal for a WA? for the price and the fact that it is a 35mm....it is a no-brainer....
waiting to see what the 28 can do...

I tend to agree.  Its a decent lens, not quite as sharp as the 55mm or 80mm, some moustache distortion and a little CA also visible on images from my ZD.  The 35mm is one of Mamiya's older designs.  The new 28mm will however be a brand new desgn.  Still, I like the 35mm, decent performance and a useful focal length.  I think Mamiya lenses are great value compared with the likes of Hassy, and just as good.

Hi
I have had one for 3 months and love it. I used it on a project last month on a overhead shot. I was glad I had this lens as the camera stand did not have to be so high. There was distoration which I expected and this was fixed in CS2. Again for the money this is a very usefull lens to have in the kit. I also like the way they have the AF switch on the barrel of the lens, very easy to use.

I use mine with a Leaf Valeo 17wi with good results, my last shot with it. The picture was for a calendar 2007. [attachment=1632:attachment]

its interesting that the 35mm is an older design than the 55 and 80, because the build and design (with the proper focus ring) of it is a lot nicer than the "canon 50 1.8 looking" 55 and 80. at least the 28 looks better- these things are important when you invest so much in gear.
