Real World Ink Usage? - HPz3100 and Canon ipf5000
« on: January 16, 2007, 03:23:58 pm »

Still looking for my new printer. Have a client who needs 300 - 11x14 and / or 16x20 color prints, so I'm trying to price the job based on a printer I haven't purchased yet!

I'm looking for some real-world numbers on ink usage. Will be printing these prints on a heavy watercolor paper, probably Innova Soft Texture 315.

Can some owners of these machines post some data on expected ink consumption for an 11x14 on such media? Or just some general ml / sq. ft info. on similar media?

Thanks.

I’ve been researching the iPF5000 and am ready to buy so I don’t speak of personal experience but the follow up review on Luminous-landscape covered costs related to ink usage (which was important for me as well) on the iPF5000.  The sizes given are 11x17” and 17x22”, not quite what you were asking for but I was able to do some basic calculations from these sizes for my needs and I figure that you will too.  Here is the link:

Good luck with your decision.

I went ahead and bid on this job, although I'm still playing "wait and see" between the canon ipf5000, the hp z3100 and the impending canon ipf6000.

The job is for 300 - 11x14's or 300 - 16x20's (to be determined by the client).

I'll be printing on Innova Cold Press 315. For that quantity I priced the 11x14's at $14.50 ea. and the 16x20's at $18 ea. That's only if they get 300. Price goes up as quantity goes down. Don't like estimating when I don't have the printer yet, but I think I'm OK. Sound reasonable?

Thanks
