flextight photoscanner

I have a flextight Photo scanner which has given me several years good use. I use it infrequently now because I am now digital, however I have just been trying to use it and it is making a  loud knocking noise as the transparency starts to make a preview scan, the scan does not work, coming back as a series of small coloured dots where there should be an image.
Any body any ideas how to fix this ?

There is a user's group for those scanners over at Yahoo Groups.  I would suggest you post there and I bet you will get some helpful answers.
