Prayers for bushfire safety
« on: January 06, 2007, 05:47:25 am »

If any of you believe in the power of prayer please pray for us now. The bushfire is only a few kilometres from us and sounds like a freight train heading our way.

Prayers, sympathy, and crossed fingers I'm sure you now have in abundant measure.

Please keep us posted until the threat has past. I tried finding a news source for this but couldn't.

Where are you? According to my reckoning , if you are in the guest house that is linked to your post you are 35-40K from the nearest fire. The South East change that came through here last night should have reached your area by now, moving the front further away. You should check with the websites of the Country Fire Authority and The Department of Sustainability and Environment for current fire information.
These sites also give appropriate information on the psychological and physical preparation required
in the event of approaching bush fire.

Good morning Dale & Brian, just awake after 3 hrs sleep. Not sure where you're getting your information from Brian, but its been three weeks since the fire was that far from us -   last night it was no more than a kilometre from here. It has been sitting in containment lines about 15-20 kms due north of us for a fortnight now. Yesterday it spotted over to Deptford (5 kms due north) and roared (and I mean ROARED) past us driven by a north-east wind and is currently threatening Bruthen. A few degrees further to the north would have seen the fire right on us. My post asking for prayer wasn't a panic attack. We are as well prepared physically as is possible to be, and as christians we are absolutely free from anxiety, its nice to know though that someone else is thinking of you. We have been prepared for thirty years for a bushfire, we wouldn't be living here otherwise.
For the moment we are safe, but have been warned that until the projected cool change come through around lunch time things may get torrid again.
Thank you both (and anyone else) for your thoughts and encouragement.
Bob.

I just saw this thread and want to add my voice to the others.  From this distance,  I can offer only prayer and sympathy, but my thoughts and concerns are with you, your family, your neighbors and the firefighters.  Please keep us informed.

Thank you all. Quiet here at the moment, lots of back-burning going on around us. Waiting to see what the hot north wind change forecast for wed-thur brings.
Again, thank you all.
