Museo Silver Rag issues
« on: January 02, 2007, 03:01:35 pm »

I've been testing different papers.  The latest are the Museo Silver Rag and the hahnemuhle FA pearl.  I printed on the silver rag first.  The image came out as if it had never been sharpened.  Nothing is crisp or sharp where it should be.

I then printed on the FA pearl.  It printed fantastic as I about fell over at the quality of the BW and it's perfectly sharp where it needs to be.

Both prints were the same image with the same settings in PS and the Epson 3800 driver.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help-

I would suspect the head needs a special alignment for the Museo. Yopu may also need to do a custom paper set-up with "wide" platten gap, ".5mm" thickness, and run an alignment pattern. I ended up going with the Innova as it would run fine with the Epson PLPP settings, along with its associated auto platten gap, paperthickness, alighment, etc.,

Ed, I just checked mine (I printed the HFAP, CMSR and Innova WT and BW F type and Innova semi matte--with the same toned mono image and available 3800 and/or 4800 profiles).  I can't tell much difference in the sharpness of the Silver Rag and Fine Art Pearl--they are so similar it is surprising.  That said, the Silver Rag paper itself is more 'reflective' and I would choose the HFAP over it for that reason.  However, the printed image itself is extremely close--esp. in reflectivity.  The Innova semimatte is by far my choice--altho' you didn't ask about that  *smile*.

I also tested silver museo on my 3800, I found with the stock profile the colors were close but when I configured a custom profile made from my i1 it sharpened up and had more pop. While the stock profile was better than most canned profiles a custom profile delivered more snap.

Thanks for the help.  I'll give the platten gap a try and throw the Innova into the mix to try out.

Does the Innova semimatte use PK or MK black?
