« on: December 26, 2006, 09:20:30 pm »

Michael,

There was talk here and at Colorbyte Software of support for the ipf5000, but I have seen nothing here nor there yet.  Any new developments?

Thanks so much for all your input!!!

On Dec. 20th he wrote again and said that "It is Coming soon."

This is the best answer I have.

ImagePrint and ipf5000???
« Reply #2 on: December 26, 2006, 10:44:12 pm »

On June 27, Michael wrote that Colorbyte was planning to release IP for the IPF5000 in 60-90 days.  That was almost exactly 180 days ago.  I am sure they mean well, but the ship dates are always far, far longer than any estimate that they make.  Since I have Imageprint 6 for Epson 2400, I would definitely consider upgrading to the 17 inch printer category and trying Imageprint on the IPF5000.

Software being 1 year late or longer is pretty normal.  I'd be surprised to see it before June 2007.  When I read that 60-90 days back in June 2006 I thought that June 2007 was the "real" target date.

The check is in the mail and the software will be released within 60-90 days are two of the biggest lies man has ever created!

I spoke to one of ColorBytes team a couple of weeks ago.  The testing is going well, and they were shooting for a Dec release.  I'm thinking mid-Jan though.

Okay, enlighten me.  Why ImagePrint?  I don't know enough about RIPs to ask anything else.

That's what the search function is for.

Search, read the threads and then ask informed questions. That would be the considerate netiquette.

The iPF5000 is an awsome printer but the software drivers are very poor (interface not performance) both the windows driver and the plugin have very poorly designed user interfaces so a RIP should be easier to layout multiple prints and in theory produce better results with more sophisticated algorithms laying down the ink

I have the Canon 8000 but I see nothing wrong with the driver.  There has never been anything I would want to do that I couldn't.

Its for real, I have a copy to look over. I haven't installed it yet and can't comment if there's support for the 5000 which I have as well as my Epson's. But there IS a version 7. I just need some darn time to look it over....

So it's a near release candidate if Andrew and Michael have it.

That could mean we're days, weeks or months away from a release.

The only thing I'm hoping for is to get rid of the restriction of the Canon driver in that the same paper type is usually not available for feeding through the cassette and the roll feeder.  The printer will let me select Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss as the paper type in the roll feeder but the driver only lets me print on that paper type from the cassette even though it is selected in the printer.  Same for most of the other paper types.  Most are restricted to either the roll or the cassette.  I certainly hope that ImagePrint will make this work properly.

Good news for HP Z users too, as Colorbyte are nearing (very near) completion of the IP V7 for Z 3100 printers.
I should have it soon , and will be glad to share my findings , if Colorbyte wishes this.
