Scanner Exposure
« on: December 26, 2006, 03:00:50 pm »

Hi there

I have a Microtek 1800f scanner and am scanning reflective art (paintings) or rather plan to. I use silverfast Ai 6.5. I am a bit worried cause if I scan a macbeth color checker the white patch is exposed at 255 (I know it should be about 245) with no levels or curves adjustments and a gamma of 1.8 ( I have tried down to 1.4 with no difference). If I scan a kodak target I get the white patch to 245 quite easily.

Is this normal? Should I worry about this or is it just because of the material of the checker that it over-exposes. I very white piece of paper like Epson Enhanced matte also goes to 255.

Does anyone know if there is a way in Silverfast to make it expose less to keep the highlights.

If I use curves or levels to bring the white point down do I still lose the detail that was there and just make it duller?
