Leaf Capture 10.0.4 Update 2 now out
« Reply #20 on: December 30, 2006, 11:34:07 am »

For my first post here [I've been reading for a while] I'd like to thank you guys for some really great comment and advice - particuarly James and E Edwards.

I mainly shoot food still life and will be taking delivery of my first A65 later this month.
I've been shooting with the 65 & a 22 on hire the past few months & whilst I have not been overly impressed with aspects of LC10, I've been very happy with the overall end files and the operation of the back.

Hopefully I'll begin to contiribute when I'm a little more settled into the system, but for now I'll carry on reading the excellent insights you're all providing.

Have a pleasent new year everyone.

Has anyone tried the Java upgrade and tweaks I noted? I'd love some feedback to see if it's made a difference on anyone else's system.

Happy New Year

Hi Bob.
I just tried your settings (copied and pasted) into my mac (17" 1.5Ghz Powerbook G4 - 128mb VRam, 2Gig RAM). I have no idea what the properties do and if changing them for my mac would help, but at the moment I don't know if LC10 is actually faster or it is just my wishful thinking... which can only mean that if there is any difference it is fairly minimal. Unless of course I input the parameters incorrectly?
Here is a screen grab of the Java Pref window.

Thanks for sharing this info... it will be interesting to see what Yair can find out about it and if it will make a substantial difference when we get recommended settings.
Regards
Andrew

Andrew - that's exactly what I did.

Yair - I can't wait to see what R&D comes up with!

The Java Runtime parameters can be customized but require thorough testing to make sure they do not affect other areas or introduce new issues.
We are continuously working to improve the overall performance and to optimize the behaviour of LeafCapture on various platforms.
Tweaks performed by the users may help them and others with similar configurations but we cannot guarantee the general efficacy of these preferences.

Does that mean R+D will be looking at possible tweaks and you'll get back to us?

Don't trust anything Leaf has to say about software.

1) Still waiting for LC 11?
2) Still waiting for promised Live Video with LC10?
3) LC 10 is weak at best. ( I know I work with it almost every day.)

What Leaf needs to do before they lose more customers, is get a new software engineer. I am days away from returning my Aptus 75 and getting a Phaseone P45+,  just to have working software.

Leaf can not even solve the centerfold problem in LC10. How is it Sinar came up with a fix? Go hire the same guy to  engineer a fix for Leaf.

Leaf responce to me. We have a new software fix for post? I don't want to fix in post I want to shoot a clean file.

Posted on the Leaf forum. I heard the same news last year and i am still waiting. Still no good fix for centerfold line or color cast. Creating software to fix problems in post is not acceptable.  Photographers shooting with leaf products need to see finished shot just like photographers shooting with Phaseone backs and sinar backs get to see.

What gives Leaf?
You said you would have something new last sept in Nov?

On November 29th we wrote that we would soon release a stability update (10.0.4 Update 2 – "U2") and provide a roadmap for version 10.1. U2 was released on December 18th, and was very well received worldwide.

With respect to Leaf Capture 10.1, we will be publishing a Release Candidate in mid April 2007. This version will include the following improvements and functionality:

•   Color Temperature slider
•   Grid
•   Layout Overlay
•   Improved display interactivity
•   GUI functionality fixes
•   Enhanced stability
•   Live View module (for beta testing by customers who have purchased the Live View option)

We believe this version will significantly improve your experience with Leaf Capture software.

Best Regards,
