rebel xti lenses
« on: December 17, 2006, 11:42:23 pm »

I am looking into buying the xti and looking for the best deal. I have encountered man different "deals" whether on ebay or on other sites. Many different lens and prices. Best deals so far that I have seen in terms of quantity of accesories is on www.bestcameraprices.com and I am wondering with all of the deals out there I have found that I do want to go with an IS lense. Now I have found the EF 17-85mm IS USM and have read that it only fits the 300 or the xt and the 20D. Is this so or am I thinking correctly in the thought that if it fits the 300 (xt) then it will fit the xti?
Also I was wondering if anyone can give me any info or help on if there is a better place to find a deal on a package for the xti. I am a newcomer and have been told that this is the easiest and best deal to go with. I want to do nature as well as sports and wedding/ event pics so I will be covering a broad spectrum. Is this an acceptable or better yet THE CHOICE I should go with for these areas and my limited knowledge? This is one of the packages I have considered. I would like to upgrade to the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM for about $350-400 more.

Let me know if I need to consider anything else. I appreciate any help from those more experienced. Thanks again,
Daniel

Have you looked on Resellerratings or a similar website to see if your 'deal' is backed by good ratings (or even basic honesty)?  It's generally safer to pay a little more & deal with a reliable merchant, for example B&H.

well thanks for the advice, I found that many were not too pleased with them. I will be checking B&H. Thanks again. If you have any other place I can check let me know.

The 17-85 is an EF-S lens.  If the Xti supports EF-S lenses it will work fine.

For camera gear (online) I've used B+H, adorama, dell and buydig.  They've all been fine.  Buydig usually has the best prices.  Dell can be great if you can stack coupons willy nilly.  (Which is getting harder and harder to do.)
