I still have the problems
mentioned here and although Silverfast promissed me to sove this, it was never solved at all.
I have started to work arround this problem by color correcting the images using Photoshop. I scan the negatives using the correct film profile if possible. I scan (using a Canon 9950F flatbed) at 2400 dpi and use the Image-Auto-Adjust to remove color shifts.
Then I open the image in Photoshop and use the "Curves" mainly to correct the white balance.
Sometimes however I feel that the images look a bit flat. In the mean time I learned that this can be controled by adjusting the Gamma value in Silverfast.
Currently it's set to a value of 2.0, but I wonder if others use different values. A value of 1.8 gives more contrast, while a value of 2.2 gives less contrast.
According to
article the value should be between 2.0 and 2.2, but if you want to determine the optimal value I would need an IT8 target, which I don't have offcourse
