hi all,

Last Summer we visited Scotland again. You can find the first new portfolios here: around Loch Tay and the Grampians.

In "mustn't grumble" I tell the tale of our holidays (in short, small children and even smaller midges and photography not always go together...)

Keeping the books 2006 describes what my targets were, what gear and how I look back now all is done.

I hope you enjoy! Comments welcome, of course.

Hi,

I was at one of the places on Sunday that you visited, the place was Killin and the Falls of Dochart. Well, the Falls were absolutely incredible due to the amount of rain that we have had in the past week, infact, had to drive through a lot of flooding/mudslides etc.. to reach Killin due to all the heavy rain but, well worth the bother.

btw.  Nice series of photos, enjoyed them very much

Cheers John

Hi Andy,

not sure if it is the same Inn but, the first Inn you come to as you enter Killin was surprisingly closed, looks like it is out of business, we did however go into a brilliant little cafe that had excellent homemade soup, well needed too as I was freezing cold by this point.

We didn't stay in Killin as we were visiting a few places, Falls of Falloch, Balquidder (Rob Roy MacGregors grave) and then onto Blackford to stay the night.

I haven't checked out my pictures yet but I don't think they will be up to much as my lense was continually covered with spray from the falls, I did get some cool footage on my camcorder though.

Cheers John

When I was a kid my parents used to holiday every single summer in Killin. This is Loch Tay at 2am in the summer....

Hi Wim,

Nice images, thanks for sharing them.

I am getting increasingly ashamed to never have visited Scotland.

Cheers,
Bernard

It is a shame indeed    But then again, I never visited Japan, New Zealand and all those other magnificent places you've been.

[ In February I will be off to Scotland again, for some real wintery pictures    And a first time real trip with the Imacon 132c! ]

Scotland... yes, I lived there until 1981 when I got the hell out of it and moved to Spain.

Loch Lomond: in all the years I lived not far from there, just across the Clyde and south of Glasgow, I saw Loch Lomond looking good twice! The first time I remember was doing one of my final local shoots from a motor yacht - the subject was a castle on the western side that was being converted to a hotel and lodges were being built - and I'd convinced the client that it had to be shot from the water. The next and final time was during winter, years after I left Scotland. I was driving back down to Glasgow from Blairgowrie having opted for the 'scenic' route, crazy with ice etc. (but I was, by then, a tourist), and there was a brief period where there was this incredible mixture of fog over the loch and strong, directional sunlight cutting into it. Magic. But please, don't go there expecting good weather - it is the exception far rather than the rule. After all, why do you think it's always so green and lush?

Killin. I had my honeymoon there and there's a lovely drive on the opposite side of Loch Tay from which you have this great view of Ben Lawers where I once skied; again, it is all weather dependent. It's one of those passing places roads, so parking is always difficult...

Oh, on the western shore of Loch Lomond there was a restaurant called the Stagger Inn (they love those sorts of names) and the food there used to be excellent but expensive. I dread to recommend restaurants to anyone because so much is down to the mood of the chef, but it was good when I went there!

Ciao -  Rob C
