H1D and Aftermarket Backs
« on: November 30, 2006, 04:45:44 pm »

I was told today by a Hasselblad rep that you cannot use an aftermarket back on the H1D body.  Only on the H1 body.  Bummer.  Didn't realize the lockout had started back then.

It wasn't really a lockout; the H1D was only sold as a kit with the H1D back, providing a slightly lower cost than buying a back separately. The H1D back does not work with an H1 body either. Same situation as with the H2D.
Both H1 and H2 bodies were, of course, readily available as separate items.

I wander if that rep ever held another back in his hands...

When I did a side-by-side test Aptus Vs H1D two years ago, I used the same body...and I did the same thing last year with the H2D....

The body has a catch at the top that with the H'bald back you have to take the prism off to release it.
Other backs don't use this catch so it's actually easier to take it off....

Not necessarily a good thing....(the easier to take off part).

So Yair are you telling me I can put an Aptus or P30 onto an H1D and it will work fine?
I wouldn't be surprised if the Hassy rep had never tried it.

Unless there was a secret firmware lock update recently or something like that, then yes.
