I am looking forward to the new Arca. Having tilt and a bayonet mount for lenses with helical focusing on the body seems very promising, not to mention the zoom viewfinder.

As I want to keep the possibility to do 4x5sheet film, i'll probably decide between the Arca (the large one, i looked nice at the Photokina) or the Cambo. As these cameras have 4x5 backs, I suppose i can use my (back then so expensive) Sinar Zoom cassette on these toys too? I sold some of my Sinar equipment in this last year, but I'm decided too keep a 58mm XL and my Zoom cassette for travelling. There are places in this world you don't want to travel with a DB.

So Arca: where's your website, where's your camera, there are fans waiting for this toy,-)

You learn something new every day around here. Wow I feel stupid, I guess I just learned a new lesson don't listen to your dealer. I was told by my dealer I needed to turn the camera in the vertical position to shoot.   I guess life just got a little easier.

You can indeed rotate the H back on a Cambo WideDS, I've just tested it with our demo WideDS and  a Phase One P25. If you look carefully at this image, you will see that there is a silver sliding catch at the top of the opening in the plate. If you slide this, you can take the centre drop in insert and rotate it 90 degrees and lock it into place. You do not rotate the entire mounting plate, only the drop in insert. On a V back this is unneccessary (at least with Phase One backs) because they have mounting tabs on both the bottom and side of the back.

Cheers,
Ron

Don't feel too bad John, the first day I used the WDS on a job, my assistant turned it on it's side too. It wasn't until after spending half the day doing that made me go "Hey, I've got a v-mount!"

Duhh...

Life just got a little easier here too...I just saw Uma Thurman on the street

Thanks for all that guys!
I think I'll go the Gottschalt way.
And with Rodenstock lenses.
Happy shooting,
Willem.

Not sure yet!
Also looking the Silvestri.
What's important for me as a sliding back.
I don't want to take my Digital back off and on all the time.
The other option is to compose the shot with the LCD on the back.

Decision,decision,decision!

Well, I'm a dealer and I hope that my customers do listen to me, at least once in a while

To be honest, I haven't seen this info on the Cambo web site, but just looking at the camera quickly it was fairly obvious.

I guess I was so busy trying to get my Aptus 75 back working correctly, I missed the camera part.

i use the gottschalt in a very modified form, together with the emotion75.
i have lenses from 28-135mm. 24xl would also be possible, but i dont have it.
longer lenses would become difficult to use for limited shift possibilities.
i can shift the front 30mm and move it in a circle.
i can slide the back to compose with groundglass or move it 30mm to right or left.
i can rotate the sensor without removing it.

its more or less the ds-di body, but few mm  thinner because my sliding back is a special construction by him,- some type of prototype. it has the sensor mounted with a special adapter which is very thin, but so the sensor can be rotated without removing it, also it has a metal slider as a film cassette, which you put in if you slide out the back.
you have to remove 3 screws to screw it afterwards again on the hassy adapter. where is light is also shadow.....
so not very practical if you change often the camera.
i will get now a second back for the camera, the normal little back ( which he lists on his webpage ) to work with  viewfinder. the camera can be handheld than and will be really little.

the camera goes back now to him second time , cause several thing are not 100% ready and i will make some days off.  in general the camera is very leight weigthed and has more or better features than the other solutions i know.

Just a tip on the Cambo Wide DS which for me is a definite plus.

You can shoot it handheld.

While this isn't something I'd want to do a lot, the reality is that the tripod police generally don't stop you shooting handheld.

Really liking this camera for my work.
