Keywords - your workflow
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:51:48 am »

Hello,
I would like to start using keywords finaly. But before I start I  would like  to set the basic groups of keywords and find a good workflow.
That's why I would like to ask you about your technique.
What  do you describe with keywords? Every single member of the family from the family shot? Every object (car, house, etc) ?
I know I will need to have the basic (place, camera, FAMILY or WORK or ART,) but I am not sure how far I should go.
Mostly I am pretty sure nobody else will use my keywords. I am working as a press photographer and after I send my photos from action nobody from work will ever ask me for more.

thank you for your comments.

I usuall use keywords for what kind of photography it is (landscape, street, architecture, ...), the name of the location, and such very general terms. These I add to all pictures in the shoot.

Then I may shot-specific keywords, but that happens more at whim. "swimming dog", "rocks, sea", etc.

A good place to start reading:

Tools to consider for your workflow: iview, imatch (windows only) or the Lightroom beta. They make it easy to add keywords from a fixed list. You can do it from Adobe Bridge, but Bridge is slow.

so far i found bridge is the best for me.
I dont like that imatch and iview are making own database.
Bridge is storing keywords in to xmp files with raw or in jpeg so i can use other appz to search for files.

iview, imatch and Lightroom can all be set up to write metadata (including keywords) back into the files so that they are accessible to other applications.
