Radio transmitter with fast flash sync

Since I bought a H2, I needed a radiotransmitter/receiver that can
handle flash sync of 1/800 s.

Bowens Pulsar says ( if I read the tech paper right ) that it
can handle 1/2000.

After I bought one, I found out it cannot. Max 1/320 maybe.

Anyone out there knows a transmitter/receiver that I can use 1/800.

I use Pocket Wizards both original and a multimax all muddled up

seem fine on my h1 at 800th

elinchrom lights  and quantum T and X flashes

I had trouble the other day when I used the H1 without the wizard which was probably on the passenger seat floor under a stale pizza wrapper - the batt on the H1 was a bit low and didnt fire the X conection reliably

Appaerently the H3 has a special flash synch that locks out 'third party' pocket wizards (sorry made that up  )

I looked at Pocket Wizards, but the spec says up to 1/500 only.

Are you sure you do not see any difference at 1/500 and 1/800?

Best that you check yourself before making any purchase

THe flash does fire and there is not a blank frame

I have not tested whether the exposure is consistent - there may be many factors - flash type too

I will drop a few frames tomorow

FYI, i just did a test to see how my flash and pocket wizards go at 800sec.

i did 4 tests, sorry i was lazy with the exposure- but it was same on each test, 60th sec through to 800th. look at the difference between 500th and 800th on all the tests. ,

1-profoto 7b full power/ pocketwizard plus/ h1/p25
2-profoto 7b full power/ sync cord/ h1/p25
3-profoto 7b half power/ pocketwizard plus/ h1/p25
4-profoto 7b low power/ sync cords/ h1/p25 (i balls up the exposure, but you can see the result)

it looks as if i lose about stop at 800 no matter what combination, weather i use pocket wizards, sync cords, even with the flash at low power (for quick duration).

why is that? is it something i will just have to live with?

Looks pretty conclusive - it works - kind of - and the PW seems no different from the synch cord

Interesting - I hadnt noticed this as I typically build an exposure by choosing appropriate shutter and apperture and then manually adding flash while evaluating the histogram rather than using a flash meter

I guess that is living with it

I tested H2 with Bron Pulso and it was no problem with sync cord and 1/800.
But that is a studioflash and the fast sync is IMO more needed outdoors.

I will test my Pro 7B with sync cord also.

Elinchrome has come out with a transmitter/receiver that do 1/1000.
I will test it when they have in stock at my supplier.

I think the changing brightness is due to factors involved in the pulse of light from different flashes both the duration and the intensity curve during that duration rather than the triggering mechanism

(as we saw with the test images)

I think I have seen bron color or pro foto show graphs of thier light pulse in terms of a duration/intensity curve  


If you think about the nature of a leaf shutter it is open for longer in the middle than at the edges

Blad are aware of this and coin a phrase 'true exposure'

In terms of real hand held shooting I have never noticed a problem with my PWs and Qflashes - but like I said I tend to choose shutter speed then adjust the flash manually to match that shutter speed
