Oldies but Goodies?
« on: November 09, 2006, 09:51:31 am »

Reading Michael's review of the Canon G7 and the discussion afterwards brought a new thought to mind.  Several years ago Michael highly recommended the 5 megapixel Canon Powershot S50, and since I wanted such a camera for very much the same purposes Michael described then and now, I bought one.  It is full-featured and nimble, shoots raw, and I continue to use it.  Prints up to 13x19 are excellent.  True, by today's standards it is boxy and a bit large for a "pocket" camera, but it is still highly serviceable (and paid for).

My new thought was this: in such a rapidly changing digital world it would be interesting and helpful for someone like Michael to do a summary article on some of these "oldies but goodies" like my S50, maybe even the ones he himself once recommended.  The list might include more than cameras (whatever happened to scanners, for instance?).  Would anyone else find that a good idea?

Since reading all the complaints about Canon dropping RAW in the G7, I've started taking very good care of my S60.
