iPH 5000 frustrations

I have found the iPH 5000 to be a great printer, when you can get it to print.
The Photoshop plugin has yet to print a full images for me.  I double check to see everything is set correctly.  Click on print.  Nothing happens.  I open up the Garo Printmonitor, select the print and click on the print arrow.  It prints about 3 inches and then just stops.  The Garo  monitor says the printer is not connected.  I have to shut it down to get the paper out.
I seem to have much better luck just using the regular Photoshop print option.
I hope Canon gets it together and sends out a new firmware for this monster.
It's odd that in the Garo you have options that the printer does not have. Such as the media type.

How is it hooked up? I have heard of people having problems if they use too long of cable or connect through a hub

Dont know what the cable length on USB2 is (plain USB used to be 16 feet) but I've been running a 5000 for about 3 weeks now through a powered hub with closer to 20 feet of cable and have experienced no problems at all. Infact its a powered hub that is linked into my LaCie 22" monitors hub (- does that count as two powered hubs?) Havent tried to network it yet - too busy printing.

It is hooked up through a 16 foot Active usb to a 10 foot usb from the machine.
It prints fine if I just use the normal Photoshop print menu, but the iPF 5000 plug-in is for sh...

Ive never used the Photoshop menu, just the PlugIn via File/Export- so far its been flawless.

Are you on an Intel Mac ? The plugin is not compatible with them yet.

I think you have it backwards - I have an Intel Mac Pro and the Photoshop export plug-in works, but the normal Mac printer driver does not work.

USB works fine on my IMP.  I could not figure out how to make the network connection work (I don't know if that is an Intel issue, too).

Are you on an Intel Mac ? The plugin is not compatible with them yet.

 My 5000 does the same thing. Printing when the Garo says it is not connect,it also does not like to take paper from the back tray. Canon is no help. palderm

i had similar problems on day 2.  called up canon and we narrowed it down to the PS plug-in.  sometimes deleting the plugin and reinstalling fixes it and sometimes it doesn't.  this kind of stuff really shouldn't be happening to begin with.

Got another problem on this dammed canon printer...the printhead ran into the paper (curl aside) and destroyed the printheads....
VERY VERY expensive repair!!!!  
for me this is CANOT !!!! their marketing is better than their quality!  
this is a lemon !  

compared to my epson 7600 (22.000sqm) never got a problem, just a maintenance around 14000sqm (cost = 220euro), never replaced the printhead, only used epson genuine inks and fujihunt media!

I figured out the problem.
The USB2 "active" cable caused all the problems.
I plugged it directly, with one cord, into the MAC and it now works incredible.
The Photoshop plug-in works great now, as does the printer.
I am using on a MAC G5 OSX10.4.8

Still not sold on the black/whites prints I am getting, though.
