LCD Monitor Recommendation
« on: November 03, 2006, 03:30:51 am »

I am looking in the market for a LCD Monitor for hobby photo processing and viewing. After studying this Forum and the especially the entry of neoprinter there are some questions left open:

Is the Apple Cinema Display 23" in the same quality range as the new iMac 24"?

Is the NEC 2190UX better suited for photography than the iMac 24" Display?

Which one is the ticket for photographer in the price Range below 1200€?

Thank You

Note that NEC is supposed to have widescreen versions of their new 90-series shipping later this month, the 2490wuxi and 2690wuxi.  The latter is spec'd to cover 92% of the Adobe RGB color space.

I was told a while back by Apple that the screens in the iMacs are identical to the stand alone versions.

The NEC LCD 2690WUXi is listed here (Netherlands) for about E1300,- But it's not available yet, it will take few weeks. I have heard from NEC USA, that the current Spectraview II hardware calibration software is not compaitble yet with this wide screen monitor. However the expect it will be avialable in a future release.

People who used 24" iMac say that it's not good as 23" ACD, or 20" iMac. NEC 2190UX is best of those you mentioned, but like others already said - NEC is releasing 24" and 26" displays, with S-IPS panel in few weeks, you should definitely wait for eventual price drop of 2190UX, or go for some of the new models.

Thank You all for the input.

The iMac is a nice looking device and a bargain with the Intel Core 2 Duo, although I'll wait for the new NECs.

Thanks again

FWIW,  Don't discard the Dell 2407 24inch widescreen which are very often available on offer a little more than 500GBP

CF slots and other card readers included.

Profiled and contacted to a Mac they work well for the money so I bought two of them with two cheaper monitors to run both dual screen.
