compare Raw files frome 5D and D2xs
« on: October 28, 2006, 01:09:20 am »

I have noticed I got warmer(white balance) pictures from my D2Xs then 5D, images were taken in Nef and Raw convert thru C1Pro, no adjustments stright into Jepg. Is it safe to say it is the characteristic of the sensors in the two cameras?

I think its far more likely the image processing algorithms and the slight differences in white balance settings.

What white balance settigns did you use on each camera ?

Dont assume that cloudy on a D2Xs is the same as a 5D. I am assuming that C1Pro picks up the WB.

Hi Ian, I am talking about Raw and Nef files, they are not bothered by the camera settings, and the C1 Pro white balance setting was set to "as shot".

Each camera has its own unique set of relative RAW sensitivities in the red, green, and blue channels.  The converters should have these values, but they may not always be accurate in the way they execute them.  Never depend on builtin or auto WB settings, use a white reference for WB, or do it by eye.

"As shot" normally means "use the camera's white balance setting", which means that you were bothered by the camera settings.
