Imageprint - paper white on or off?
« on: October 25, 2006, 10:13:26 am »

When softproofing in Photoshop using Imageprints custom profiles is it better to have paper white on or off?  When I switch on paper white and then compare the image to what is in the imageprint GUI they look different.  Which one do I beleive?

When I print I often find the prints are not bad but somewhere between the two previews.  Sometimes they can be bit lighter and less saturated as the proof.

My screen is calibrated and I usually print using the relative Col intent with the B-point slider at 75.

Am I being a bit of a muppet expecitng more accuracy or does my setup need some tweaking?

It's nearly impossible to get the two to match perfectly. I suspect they are using slightly different preview architecture (which is right?).

You're probably better off with the simulation off for most stuff since you really can't edit the image in Photoshop or for that matter do much since you need to dismiss the palettes and menu's (they don't undergo the white simulation).

If you had a good profile editor, you could edit the IP profile preview table for a better match in Photoshop of what you see in IP. Not sure it's worth the effort but doable.
