While we're guessing... I think that Phase One agreed in principle with Mamiya to do something but then the Hy6 came along and Phase One is probably more interested in backing the Hy6 than whatever Mamiya was planning.

I wonder what P1 and M had been discussing. P1 already sells backs for the existing 645 camera so I can only assume that M was planning a new camera, and perhaps offered P1 exclusive rights to the new mount/interface? Or it could have been something more minor like in-back lens correction, etc.

The Phase dealer here in Sydney told me that Phase was very interested on coming on board
with the Hy6!

He also said that without that, there won't be a Hy6!

The market share from Leaf and Sinar would be to small to fire up the production line.

Cheers,

Willem.

Don't listen too much what dealers are telling you: the past has proven most of them wrong, taking most of the time their dreams for reality. My little finger tells me that production is on the way, being it with PO or not. That PO is interested is one thing, being on board another. This has nothing to do with the (current) market share of DB, but more about a MF system much needed after the recent and past changes in the MF market.

Well, don't listen to what that dealer is telling you.  Not all dealers are in the clouds.

I would we agree with Aon that the Hy6 will be coming with or without Phase.  Phase One was asked to "invest" in the product so that they  would have the "priveledge" of having thier logo right above the lens as we have seen with Leaf, Sinar, and Rollei.  P1 chose not to committ to "investing" in that system unitl proven.  I think it was a good choice.  Lets see the quality and lets see the bugs before we spend hard earned cash.

All signs would show that the Hy6 has strong potential and should synch with existing P1 products.

My feeling is that I'd much rather have the Rollei logo on the body than Leaf, Sinar, or Phase One.

Just my NSHO.

My local Phase dealer, same one that Willem mentioned, offered me the new Phase/Mamiya deal, where you get a significant reduction on the price of an AFDII.

This was perfect for me as I was looking for a second body and back. So i snapped up the deal.

Leaf will come out with their own camera (not really of course...since it will be th HY6!)
I like my mamiya AFDII and I don't think I am willing to fork over 6-8K for another camera and another 6-12K for lenses.

I am willing to put another 3K down for the upgrade from A65 to A65s.....I bought the A65 recently and am glad that I didn't go for the A75...SPEED is what made me mis a lot of good shots! the 65 isn't a speedster either, but with the 65s in sight...all will be (almost) like my ds1 mkII...but with much better resolution!

Off topic : sorry

But if you are missing shots then the Canon is better for your needs surely

I put it to you that, if you are shooting handeld and fast your 'extra resolution' will only enable you to see your focus errors and camera shake more clearly - you will not get actually a better resolution - which is the ability to resolve - you will get more pixels

I know what you are saying....but the proof is on my desktop and in the prints...teh MF images give me a much better detail in both highlight and shadows.....with the Ds the highlights blow out sooner and with the MF you just see a nicer transition.

Missing images was the problem with the 75, with the 65 I set up the shot better...much larger and clearer viewfinder. The only reason I invested this insane amount of money (in my eyes) because I shot with both camera's several shoots and I was amazed that I FINALLY felt I was shooting film again...I hated digital, because in my eyes..it always looked a little digital...now with the leaf (less with the phase...still too digital for me) the images looks like it was shot with regular film....love it!

i hear this comment many times about Phase. out of curiosity, when you tested these backs, what were your sharpening settings in CaptureOne, and what were the settings on the leaf back on in post with the leaf? were you set to Disable inside of CaptureOne?

I may be wrong Charles but just as Photoshop has different types of sharpening filters and techniques, it may be the sharpening algorithms in the Leaf software compared to the Phase software that is making the difference... not just how much sharpening is done.
I also like the "look" of the Leaf files although I have no idea how that look is achieved.

both backs were used without any sharpening...I almost never use sharpening...I really compared the backs carefully, because once you make the decision you are kind of stuck with a very expensive system.

The way I looked at it:

the Phase image was like looking at a great image of the model
the leaf back was like looking a a great model

difference is that the leaf looked more real...same light, same everything. I printed both images 13x17 not sharpened and only a little color correction.

If I would shoot product I would have gone for the Phase back.
