Hi,

Nice softness on this pictures.   Can anyone share how people get this effect? (softness and incredible eyes).    I would love to have pictures like that for my daughter.

I have Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 but still can't get a results like this.
Any help will be great .

These look like something you could do with layer blending and Gaussian blur in PS. I'm going to see what I can do with some experimentation. You could just mask the eyes to keep them sharp.

There's an article on this website that illustrates a similar technique.

Where did you find these photos? I would like to see more of this artist.

Thanks

You can get soft focus lenses (or just filters) that will create an effect like this.

it looks like it's been post processed to me, whilst leaving the eyes sharp. It looks
a bit too smooth for my liking, like a magazine cover

Will the soft focus lenses (filter) will get me that effect?  I had one before and it look way far beyond this picture.

Try this:
Make two duplicate layers, one in lighten and one on darken mode.
Put a 30-40 gaussian blur on the layers and lower the opacity to around 30.
Merge the blurred layers and then put a mask on the merged layer and the then paint through that layer to highlight detail areas (eyes, lips etc.).

This will give you something approximating your examples, but experiment with the amount of gaussian blur and opacity.

Hi Cedric,

These photos definitely spent some quality time in PS but if you want to try it practically on the camera, give this filter a go:

http://www.tiffen.com/displayproduct.html?...&itemnum=77SFX4

The great thing about Tiffen Soft FX filters is that they bloom highlights without seriously effecting the sharpness of the eyes.  All diffusion filters effect sharpness to some degree, so experiment with filter grades (1 through 5 for Soft FX) and lighting.  Lighting is key to using these filters for the desired effect.

You could even try this old trick that I've played with in the past with varying degrees of success.  Take an old clear or UV filter and start dabbing a bit of Vaseline with a Q-tip around the edges of your frame.  This may work better at longer focal lengths (50mm or higher to make the Vaseline foreground element a bit softer).  Again lighting is key.  This is a fun experiment and you're results may surprise you.

Cheers,

David

I used the BW Conversion and the Vignette Blur altering the settings to achieve the level of blur required
