Need help with IPTC data management
« on: October 16, 2006, 11:24:26 pm »

Having a major problem finding an application that will allow me to manage iptc data the way I need to. Here is a list of some of the things Iā€™m trying to do:

1)   Copy iptc data from one file to another

2)   Add, append or remove a comma separated list of keywords to an image. Most of the iptc editors force you to add and remove keywords from a dialogue one keyword at a time which is too cumbersome

3)   Do what I want in ā€˜2)ā€™ across multiple files

I've found a program that can sort of handle these things (Kalimages) but it only works with a pre-generated index which means that if I add a new file to a folder then I have to re-index the whole database which takes forever.

Try IMatch from http://www.photools.com/

I do all the IPTC edits that you mention (and more) in IMatch

The program is well supported by its developer and there is an excellent user forum.  IMatch is scriptable and some of the IPTC edits you list need a script, which are freely available fom the forum.

Kind regards

That's amazing. After looking at about a dozen programs since my first post, it's the same one that came out on top for me.
