Mediastreet defects?
« on: October 12, 2006, 03:57:45 am »

Hi Folks
A while back I bought some Super B Mediastreet Royal Velvet paper. After making about a dozen prints with my 2200, I've discovered that three or four of them have white spots on them. I believe it's ink that has some off, but I haven't looked up close with a magnifying glass. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,
Jack

gadget,

I can't speak to Mediastreet's products directly, but many of the fine art type papers exhibit minor flecking and / or have small particles of coating or fiber residue on the surface.  Since I have started to dust each sheet with a soft bristle drafting brush, I have not had this problem.

Hope that helps,
Ed

Hi Ed
Thanks for the response.
So you dust the paper before printing? Do you think that there are flecks of coating on the paper left from manufacturing?
Unfortunately, the flecking isn't minor in my case - the prints are unusable.

It is one cause for the symptom you are describing and a problem that I have experienced at times  with fine art papers.  Coating and paper flecks can occur during manufacturing, cutting, and packaging and can cling to the paper.  When printed they are printed over, and then drop or fall off leaving a void.    Therefore, it is  best to remove dust and any other small particles that might be on the paper before printing.  A soft bristle 10" long drafting brush works well for me.
