Test PhaseOne XF with IQ3 50 MB
« on: June 22, 2018, 04:57:03 am »

Hello

I have above system for testing with three lenses Schneider 3.5/35mm, 2.8/80mm, 3.5/150mm.
Is there a reference which point is relevant to check.
I use normally a Hasselblad 503CW with PO digitalback P45.
Mainly I shoot landscape.
Thanks for feedback.

Hi Jochen, it may be a language translation thing but I don't really understand what you mean with "Is there a reference which point is relevant to check."  Perhaps expand on what information you are looking for...  I own an XF with IQ3100 and have shot with IQ350, IQ280, IQ260, IQ160, and so perhaps I can help if I understand what information you are looking for.

Ah OK, I don't think sites like DPreview test gear like this.  but there is a lot of info available.  This (LL) site has a review of the XF but it really only covers the Pros.  The cons, in my use are: 1. weight, 2. Single point AF, 3. weight, 4. weight :)  Image quality, if you get the shot perfectly focused is second to none.

If you type Phase One XF review into Google, there are quite a few online.

The 50mp back is the tried and true Sony 50mp sensor which is well vetted in the industry and an excellent sensor with great dynamic range and image quality.  The cons would be that it is a cropped sensor so significantly smaller than the larger backs.  This means that there aren't any really wide lenses due to the crop.  This is a challenge even for the larger sensor backs as the widest lens, 28mm is just not that wide (~19mm full frame 35mm format equivalent on an IQ3100 and only about 23mm on an IQ350).

I have test the system this weekend.
This (LL) site has a review of the XF but it really only covers the Pros.
This is clear because the owner of LL have a history to PO.
The cons, in my use are: 1. weight, 3. weight, 4. weight
You are right!!! I agree.
2. Single point AF.
That's for me a big Cons.
The body is very new and PO can change this only in a new body I think.

I cannot show a histogram in Live View befor I shoot.
That's for me an additionale Cons.

Question:
Can this PO implement with new firmware on IQ3?

The both tested lenses Schneider Kreuznach 35 mm and 120 mm are similar as my Carl Zeiss lenses 40 mm and 150 mm on 503CW mm. I state both CZ lenses are very good.

A LV histo would be nice but I think we would already have it if it were easy to do from the current sensor.  I would expect that  with the next generation of backs though.  I also hope that the readout from the next generation is fast enough to allow for an EVF.

It already is since Fuji and Hasselblad use the same sensor in the GFX and X1D.

The lack of EVF isn't a sensor issue, it is P1 being late to the party by 2 years.

Cheers,
Bernard

Yes you are right, since I own the IQ3100, that was my frame of reference and lost track of the fact that we were talking about the 50mp back.
