Search Error
« on: October 10, 2006, 03:19:26 pm »

I just started getting this error today.  When I try to search, it gives me the 'please wait 20 seconds before doing another search' - even though I have not done one to begin with (flood check).  I tried loggin out and back in, no change.  It was fine last night for me.

There have been over 700 forum users declared since about 2 hours ago, mostly non-registered. Many things are not working. I believe the forum is under attack or something has gone wrong.

If you are talking about the 'guest' count in Who's online - that is probably just search spiders - perfectly normal on forums, especially when you happen to get crawled by multiple engines at the same time.  I thought you meant there were 700 new accounts opened.

If the board is setup to allow spiders to crawl search pages though, that could certainly bog down a lesser system, and perhaps it's setup to disable the more intense features like search after a certain load point.  Hopefully if that's the case, after the spiders pass (usually a few hours at most, this forum is very small) the load will drop below the threshold and search will work again.  Unless of course it's been manually turned off for some reason.

Just to let you know there are quite a few people locked out of the forums right now (including michael) but we're looking into things ... stay tuned.  There is something strange happening for sure and it seems to have to do with time/timing of things.
