Eric,

Incredibly, in 2006 I came upon "Indian Mango," an Indian restaurant in Reykjavík owned by a Goan chef. Needless to say, he was thrilled and made a couple of off-the-menu Goan items for me. Alas, the restaurant no longer exists.

The best Vietnamese food I've had was at a restaurant in Nahariya, Israel. Went there many times from late 1983 through early '88 (during multiple Middle East visits). Early on they billed themselves as a "Chinese" place, but once customers caught on to how tasty the Specialty dishes were they dropped the pretense and went full Real Deal. Started by a couple from Saigon…they retired long ago.

There's a small Vietnamese community in my locale, with some fine restaurants, but nothing better than that little place on a street divided by a canal.
