Moving my Epson 9900

I am moving my office/studio and have an Epson 9900 to move as well. I know about locking the head and removing the cartridges. Is there anything else I should consider? In addition, I have to go down a long flight of stairs. There is a small, I wouldn’t call it an elevator, it’s a lift, But it’s only 5 feet wide and printer is 6 feet. Can I tilt the printer to make it fit the elevator. I.e. can I put it on end for the ride down?

I moved my 9900 about 200 km when I bought it, then had to move it down the stairs, rotate 90°, and put it back on the stand, a "four-pallbearer" job. I know the head was locked but I can't remember if the instruction book said to remove the carts or leave them intact.

I'd probably give Epson a call before the move and double-check what the current technique requires for a move to be on the safe side.

I was wondering about the cartridges. I would think it's safer to leave them in. I'm only going about 35Km, but have the stairs to contend with.

You need to leave the cartridges in. The ink is pressurized and it won't leak. I double checked my 9890 manual which is the same beast minus orange and green, to make sure.   We took mine out of the basement on its end and around corners with no problem. The easiest transport to get it out is to rent an appliance dolly and strap the printer on. The printer is awkward with limited space and control is easier on the dolly.

Yes, definitely leave the carts in.  If you have to angle the printer, just make sure the capping atation is at the top of the angle, not the bottom.  You don't want the ink to possibly pool in the print-head.  I sold my 9900 two years ago.  It went up my stairs and into a van.  Then a 60KM ride to an office building in Toronto.  Stood on end for the maintenance elevator and up to the new owners office.  He emailed me that evening to let me know that he had already installed the printer and the first nozzle check was perfect.  I think that tells it all.  Good luck!

The ink is pressurized and it won't leak.

While it is true you should leave the cartridges in place when moving, the ink itself is only pressurized when the printer is running.  The cartridges themselves contain a bladder in a semi airtight plastic container, which when connected allows the printer to pressurize the cartridge, squeezing the bladder.
