Merging Fotos In PS
« on: May 08, 2018, 12:07:31 pm »

Hello All.

I'm looking for some help making panoramas.

When I'm out in my 12' kayak lightly bobbing around I want to make a panorama from stitching together 8 or 9 images. So far PS can't merge them. Due to the up and down motion of the camera and also the slight lateral movement of the boat I'm sure.

I do keep the f-stop, the shutter speed and the focus all locked while overlapping the images app. 20%.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an advanced process in PS or perhaps a different software tool?

Or some other approach ?

Thanks.

Richard

Try slightly more overlap maybe 25%. Also with that man images, try doing 3-4 at a time, and then stitching the resulting 2 or 3 again.

Hi John.
Thanks for the good suggestion.
Will follow it the next time I go out.

If the extra overlap not successful then you may want to look into some form of camera stabilising system
https://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/dslr-stabilizer

No idea if this would be workable or work or just be a real dumbass suggestion  :o

A very long kayak with outriggers might work  ;) ;D

Good luck will be interesting to hear what works for you

I would try overlapping a little more.  Also you might be able to manually crop them a little before trying to merge them.  Keep them all the same size but try to get the tops and bottoms to more closely align, and if any are tilted try to fix that a little bit.

To minimize the effects of wave actions in shooting pano segments, I use a long lens and shoot the scene from a farther position. PS can usually stitch such images.

I'd overlap by a lot more too.  Can you post some examples (individual files) that did not work?
