Leaf or Phase on current Rollei 6008 series
« on: October 02, 2006, 06:46:46 am »

Hi,

Forgetting about the newer upcoming Hy6 cameras...

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of mounting either phase one or leaf backs on rollei cameras such as the 6008 series. (or other 6000 series)?

Thanks.

There is a kit with the Phase P20 on a Rollei 6008AF.  Kurland sells them for about 12-13K on Ebay but they are 16 megapixel and square if that suits you.  I haven't used one but several people have commented on how outstanding the image quality is.

Thanks Doug,

Yes I have now seen that on ebay..very cheap..10k or so.
But the square sensor does not really suit me..would rather more options.
Looking like current rolleis not supported by phase (with above exception) or leaf.

Not to worry..contax here I go!

I once had a conversation wiht some very nice Phase One folks about the Rollei and Phase One back. The guy I talked to had an Xact camera, which he used with Phase One backs, and even took it backpacking. But he acknowledged that Rollei was very concerned about focus, alignment and inter-connection between camera and the back, and thus their solution was the package deal with the P-20 back. They wanted more careful control over the physical alignment of the two, and given issues with the DMR and the R8/9, they may well be right.

Don't know if there are Phase One adapters, but there are adapters for Imacon backs (now Hassy), and for Jenoptik. But of course, the best is to wait for the Hy6, or to get a 6008AF coupled with the Sinar (Jenoptik) Emotion bundle.

The Sinar eMotion backs will fit onto the Rollei 6000 series.

i have a 6008/P20 bundle...the 6008 will not accept either phase or leaf because of the physical size of the housing which would have to be changed to enable rotating...the sinar backs and emotion backs work on the 6008, they also rotate..the imacon backs work as well...
i read in one of the releases, that rollei will sell the Hy6/emotion75 bundle right now with a 6008, which will be exchanged for a Hy6 as soon as it ships...now sure if the dealers even know about that or if that will be offered in your area...i would check...the rollei/emotion deals are sweet, just like the  P20deal, you get the camera (plus lens) for free...
i owuld not be surprised if leaf would throw in a free leaf Hy6 when you buy an Aptus75...they did it with the prodigital kit with mamiya 645...it ensures you stay with leaf and their mount and just keep upgrading within their system....in other places in this forum this was referred to as a closed system like hasselblad, which is simlpy crazy...you can still buy a rollei Hy6 and use it with adapters and you can still use any lens ever built for the rollei....the back manufacturers have no interest in making one common back connector and as long as they are all different, the cameras have to use adapters...obviously...

I've heard this on another forum as well.  Do you happen to have a link to a press release mentioning this?
