Best time to shoot tree climbing goats
« on: April 07, 2018, 07:24:59 am »

When is the best time to shoot the tree climbing goats on Argan trees in Morocco? Do you know of any other tree-climbing ruminants in a more suitable location?

Finally a picture that's truly worthy of the "love those trees" thread...

According to the article it would be the harvest time, but when is that?

Once, I found a young raccoon on my cherry tree. That was in July as the cherries were ripening. Fortunately only one, not the whole herd.

my understanding is that only two trees are allowed by the government to have the goats for conservation reasons.  wanting the maximum revenue there are goats in the trees (both along route 207) all day long.  although there may be animal comfort limitations on how long the goats can stay, i think there are several goats in the tree all day long.  i'd say early morning for the light, but not too early as they won't put the goats in the tree until there's tourist traffic - on the other hand, photos of the goats going up the tree (and young goats-in-training being placed there would be interesting)

that said, there a a couple more goats in the photo above than when i was there mid April late morning

I think some luck is involved here. I just saw some by the side of the road outside of Boerne, Texas. I immediately pulled the car off to the side of the road and by the time I had gotten out of the car with my camera they had jumped out of the tree. So, wherever you see them, I suggest you be quick on the draw.

What a great idea! When I first saw this image I was very impressed. It's the sort of image I'd like to hang on my wall in order to test visitors to my house, and perhaps amaze them.  ;D

How many visitors would realize it must be a photoshopped image because goats simply cannot climb trees.  ;D

it's not photoshopped, but some of the smaller goats in training may have had help getting into the tree.

you obviously don't know much about the capability of goats

the two "official" goat trees have goats pretty much all day long during tourist season - the goat minders make sure they stay there while they collect gratuities

sorry Ray, didn't click on the sheep image - probably shouldn't let this image get out to the Moroccan sheep farmers

Thank you for that, Jeremy. I can't believe I never saw that one before.

Speaking about sheep, in Germany's Black Forest, a wolf killed on Monday over 40 sheep.
There are about 800 wolves in Germany. In 2016, they killed over 1,000 sheep, goats, and cows.

I was in Morocco in November and the goats were in the trees. Personally they are just a tourist trap and I find them not that interesting or photogenic. Sort of lime the snake charmers in Marrakech.
