With one exception I agree with the OP, Peter, and Rob. There were several-years in the sixties where once a year I'd get my four sons actually dressed more or less properly, get 'em into the living room (at that time in a lovely house we rented from Colorado College), get out the 4 x 5 view camera and shoot this picture. Here's a member of the series. I can look at these pictures and see my sons grow. I also can see the plant in the background grow until it reached the ceiling and we had to move it out. A couple years ago my youngest (the one camera right) shot the four of them using green screen, then dubbed in the background from one of these old shots. It's a hoot.
Of course, like most people I have some tourist pictures that include some of the family, and I also do some tight head shots for groups here in my retirement community, but in general I steer away from any kind of posed picture. I much prefer real street.
