Monochrome2DNG public beta
« on: March 01, 2018, 10:56:32 am »

If you are using a camera converted to black and white (CFA stripped from the sensor), here is a utility intended to make using such cameras easier.

The utility records a true black and white DNG, compatible with standard raw converters. With such monochrome DNG files your raw converter will be skipping any demosaicking stages (which, in turn, leads to better acutance and much less moire) and white balancing. The utility also prevents the formation of 1-pixel grid artifacts.

Very cool, thanks for that and the article is a must read even for those without such cameras (very informative)!

Thank you.

We updated Mono2DNG to allow setting custom black level manually. If a camera runs modified firmware that lifts the black level but doesn't record the new value of the black level in Makernotes, one can set the black level for conversion manually, through Mono2DNG preferences.

Check "Override black level" and enter the value you need.

If "Subtract black level" is checked, the value will be subtracted from raw pixel values. If "Subtract black" is unchecked, the value will be stored as the "BlackLevel" DNG tag.

Update: compatibility w/ Iridient Developer
« Reply #3 on: March 03, 2018, 09:31:20 am »

Iridient Developer crashes if no 'DefaultCropOrigin/DefaultCropSize' tags are set in DNG file.

Prior to version 0.8.2, Mono2DNG utility was setting those tags only if crop margins are set in Preferences (that is, at least one margin is non-zero).

To solve this compatibility problem you can upgrade to version 0.8.2 (download links are updated on program web page: https://www.fastrawviewer.com/Monochrome2DNG ).
