Couple suing wedding photographer
« on: February 20, 2018, 09:07:08 pm »

UK couple sue wedding photographer who mixed up his priorities. Manchester-based photographer took 1,636 images and 559 were out of focus. Those that were in focus appeared to be concentrating on the wrong people. He only took 70 pictures of the bride, 11 of the groom and 96 of the bridesmaids, most of them focused on their posteriors and cleavage.

LOL!  The guy obviously had no idea what he was doing, other than taking titty pictures.  Did the couple not look at a folio of his work beforehand?  I'm thinking probably not.  I've seen what some local "pro" photographers have shot for weddings, and I just don't understand why anyone would hire them.  For two couples that are friends of mine I ended up taking the digital files their "pro" took and spent a week trying to fix enough of them to have a decent album.  I ended up needing shots taken from other guests just to get ~120, and took them back to the church and reshot a few myself for free (they didn't have much money).  I would be ashamed to charge anyone money for the images those paid photographers took!  After seeing that, I no longer feel timid about what I charge for weddings. ::)

That's what you get for a bargain price, they paid only £550 for the complete service (or disservice). And they got it all back after the court hearing.
Valuable experience for the next time.

Ummm, I paid good money for a family portrait session and the results were less than great. Don't forget anyone can also charge a high price yet have little skill...price does not guarantee quality...it just guarantees a high price.

Very nice straw man argument you put together.

Sure, paying a high price does not guarantee a high quality; there is a certain responsibility on the purchaser to make sure he/she is not being had.  However, this has nothing to do with the fact that low prices, especially extremely low prices, almost always results in low quality.

Reminds me of  a time way back when we used film...

A friend of mine was getting married and was going to give the guests some cardboard cameras to shoot the wedding.
I offered to shoot it for him, give them the negatives and let them do what they want at their own pace and affordability.
My fee was a bottle of Cuervo 1800!!

There at the reception in their house was the bottle, a bowl of lemon wedges, salt and a sign "reserved for photographer"!!

It was a REALLY good reception!!
The photos came out great and I got shots of relatives that no one had ever gotten as I was sort of  peaking around corners taking candid shots.
The overall favorite was the uncle, drunk and passed out in the recliner.

"Next time?"  ;D

Yes, the next time. That's exactly what I meant.
Like with anything else, the second time around you should be able to avoid some mistakes. Although they say, that the divorce rate for second marriages is 67% compared with 50% for the first marriage. And even more surprisingly, the divorce rate for third marriages is 73%. So, once you find a good wedding photographer, keep his card for future events.

In a nutshell, why I despise family work.

Not all that fond of humans in general!! :o   The tequila really helped!!!

Much prefer animals or flowers or butterflies... that sort of thing.

I'm always having to wait for humans to get out of my shots!! ::)
