The Icy Lake
« on: February 17, 2018, 05:22:37 pm »

Shot on Lofoten at Storvatnet on a cloudy day. I would have liked to shoot down at the ice, but did not dare given the slippery ice.

This was shot using the Canon 5DSR and the Canon 11-24 f/4L lens at 11mm.

Beauty!  Wise choice not to venture out farther.  "slippery slope", right?

That ice does look seriously dangerous. But a fine shot, as usual.

Wow! What I do like specially is the "overlay" of ice and the reflection of the mountains in the middle part. Great transition from foreground to background.

Nice image! I probably would have gone out on the ice but I may not be as smart as you. :D

When skating wild ice that may be thin, I like to test the ice with a softball sized rock. Toss it about 10' high on to the ice. If it breaks through or sticks, it's no-go! If it bounces and rolls, proceed with caution.  8)
That looks like it would be great skating!

Thanks to all and it was not really possible to walk onto the ice and the slope down to the water was very steep, so I resisted  :)

You did well!
It's a nice shot with a perfect weather to convey the mood of the place in winter!

Very nice. I actually think the higher vantage point works better in this case.

Thanks for the comments and it was also my conclusion that the better viewpoint was not to risk going down to the ice on a very steep and icy slope.
