Thanks for the link.  Back in the day all the school children in San Diego went on field trips up to the Mount Palomar observatory to see the Hale Telescope which at the time was the largest in the world.  We were told about all the effort it took to cast the mirror, transport and polish it as it moved from Corning NY to Los Angeles and then on to San Diego for mounting.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hale_Telescope
