Ice road in Yakutia, Russia
« on: February 15, 2018, 03:55:43 am »

Interesting and unique photos from driving on the coldest ice road in the world in Yakutia, Siberia. 1000km from Yakutsk to Belaya Gora.

Temperatures drop to -50C to -60C, every morning the driver must use a blow torch to unfreeze the truck engine. The ice on the frozen rivers is 1-2m thick.
The trip carrying 12 tons of food takes almost a week driving 14-16 hours a day. 4 days of it driving on the frozen Indigirka river. The driver makes 500 Euro (the same trip takes only 3 hours by plane).

Quote
The photographer recalls that the hardest thing was not the cold itself, but that his camera’s focus and zoom rings would occasionally freeze in place.
