New Epson SC-P800 firmware OR18HC
« on: February 14, 2018, 06:24:20 am »

It appeared for automatic download via Epson Software Updater around a month ago, but still not available on Epson support web.
There is at least one welcome improvement - nozzle check test print gives well visible results - it has now 6 head passes and adds info about ink color used (including MK/PK). You can see results in attached picture (the top print). The one below comes from 3880 just for comparison.

I just did a nozzle check yesterday and noticed that even the yellow patch was readable, which pleased me no end. So after reading this post, I looked at it again and saw the inks are indeed identified, so I must have done the update.

Yes, that is a big improvement, both in identification and clarity of the result. Thanks for mentioning this.

Neat. I bought an UV lamp because the yellow patch was basically invisible in normal light (but shows nicely under UV).

I bought a small UV light just after the P800.  It's nice to be able to see the yellow path.

My Epson Software Updater shows no new update and the nozzle checks I have are not different from what I've always had.

I have OR18HC installed, but I still get the old version of nozzle check printout?

Never mind... after a restart I get the new pattern... and I can see the yellow!

I've checked in details but cannot see any other improvements in the printer's menu. Still no ink consumption that has been removed and was available in 3880.

I ran the firmware updater software, and it was unable to detect the printer on my network.  My P800 is connected by ethernet.  Running on a Mac.  Hoping to avoid having to call Epson for tech support.  I recently acquired an Epson ff-640 scanner, and had the same result when running the firmware updater.  The ff-640 is connected by USB.

Figured it out.  The instructions say to unplug every cable from your computer except the power cord and the ethernet cable.  I figured that was not really necessary, but I figured wrong.  All set now.

you are welcome!
I try every new firmware on P800, since I am not going to change inks for third party on this printer, so no afraid on blocking external cartridges
I still wait and hope Epson will improve the firmware for the options available in the old 3880...
