Howdy folks,
I recently picked up a Hassy CFV39. I've used the 132c system for many years and am absolutely happy with it. I looked into the H3/4/5 and decided that having to upgrade all the lenses was not very cost effective for me. So I found a CFV39. The extra megapixels are nice to have, as well as the portability.
I shoot in the studio 90 percent of the time and use live view so the stylist and graphic designer can follow their layouts and see the screen before we make any captures.
The CFV39 came with a 15 foot 400-800 firewire cable. My macbook does not have the older 400 style port, but I have a five foot 800-800 firewire cable and it works fine while tethered to my macbook. No problems with live view or captures. But, I need a cable that is at least 30 feet long. My 132c cable is about that long and I have never had trouble with it. I ordered a 10 meter firewire cable from tether tools, and it powers the CFV but no live view and no capture transfers. I am guessing the cable is too long or maybe I got a bad one?
I searched the web and found a USB to firewire cable, and was wondering if anyone here used one, or if maybe I need a shorter 800-800 firewire cable that might work. I have heard of firewire repeaters, but not sure how they work.
Any info about the cable systems you guys with CFV 39's use while tethered would be greatly appreciated. Glad I did not ditch the 132C. It is a workhorse. Hope the CFV 39 can be also.
Thanks so much,
Paul
