A seemingly mundane lens question
« on: February 11, 2018, 10:35:41 am »

I was pondering lensbehavior and this question popped up in my mind, particularly considering landscape photography and for example focus stacking in lieu of scheimpflug.

Lens construction has far less effect on DoF than does aperture.  You can have both sharpness and DoF.  For landscapes, I greatly prefer tilt/shift lenses (or shooting LF) anyway.

Sure, and DoF is always a linear relation if I'm not mistaken, but that proposition changes if you add focusstacking in the mix. (I was considering focusstacking for the case where you need a sharp landscape, and sharp clouds above). The apparent sharpness created by focusstacking seems to introduce a very interesting look, even for a very appalling lens.
