Advice on how to sent the processed image back to Lightroom
« on: February 03, 2018, 03:53:55 pm »

Sorry for another beginner question. I start to process raw file in Lightroom then move to Photoshop. After I finish the process I save it from file pull down then it moves back to Lightroom but in some rare case it does not move back to Lightroom where I keep my library. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for your help.

If you watch Charles Cramer's videos you will see he saves the file out of Lightroom as a Smart Object. This allows modifications to the raw file

I may miss your point but my problem is how to move the results of Photoshop processing back to Lightroom. My workflow is to save the results and close Photoshop by clicking x mark on top right. This works but in a few occasion the image did disappear.

I have “lost” returned images because of sort order, which often defaults to ‘capture time’.  Changing to ‘file name’ and the images appears near original image(s).

If you “save as” from Photoshop as a JPG (as opposed to a PSD or TIF) for some reason, LR does not automatically import it into the catalog.

It's because it's often being saved as a Copy, not being saved itself. This happens when the file is 16 bit or has layers or other features that aren't supported in a JPG, and you'll see that "As a Copy" is enabled but greyed-out. Switch the file to 8 bit and flatten it before saving - the file will then appear in LR.

Thank you for various advice. I click “ save” not “save as” and in many cases they are transferred to LR as tiff images.

With ‘save’, they will be saved as tiff or psd based on you preferences.

As I remember, if you start with a tif/psd and specify ‘as original’, ‘save’ will replace the original.  If you are doing that, it would explain “missing” files (never do, need to test to verify).

Aha! Thanks, John.
