canon prograf pro 1000 printing is taking a lot of time
« on: January 28, 2018, 04:51:35 pm »

Hello
I bought this printer recently (one week) and made several print already.
I'm really a newbie at printing

At the beginning the printing was quite fast but now it can take one hour for A3+ for example.
Is it normal to be so slow
Did I miss one option
I'm working on Mac and connected via WIFI.
The wifi is working fine.
I will buy an usb cable but seems weird to take sooooo much time.

Thank you for your help

The printer does take some time to read itself for printing when it is first started up, and during usage after making some prints it will perform some internal self-maintenance. Neither of these processes normally consume more than a few minutes, and an A3 print should not take more than 10 minutes to print, but depending on settings and paper, usually faster. It's impossible for me to say why your printer is much slower.

Try with USB. There are many mysterious problems that disappear when people use a hardwired connection (either ethernet or USB).

Had the same issue with mine on a WiFi that normally works just fine. Could take from 12 to 45 mins for A4 on highest with PBK. Gone with wired USB. Consistent print times now, under 10 mins.  Note ethernet is not 1000mbit on the pro-1000, only 100mbit. Weird for such a printer. So USB best option if only a single machine printing to it.

I am printing with the pro-1000 directly and via ImaePrint.  I am connected via wifi, and have no issues with speed.  Note that I a have very good wireless connection level, which you can check on the printer itself and via the printer's administrative web interface.

I had full signal strength and quality indicated also when mine sometimes acted up with way longer than normal printing times on WiFi, so to me that indicator was useless in reality. But good to hear it’s solid for some, and was a while for me also, but more and more frequent problems made the cabling obvious in my case with expected reliably results.

You might also want to consider the power of your PC, especially if you are printing large psd or Tiff files.  It can be taxing on systems that don't have enough horsepower.  Also, recent operating system security patches to address the Intel processor problems have been know to substantially impact performance.  My point is that it may not be the printer
