What happened to Ilford Prestige Smooth High Gloss?
« on: January 24, 2018, 04:42:20 am »

Was this discontinued?   Is there a close substitute available?  Another favorite bites dust. I give up.

In my opinion it was never available from the new owners of the Ilford name, since 2014, after the closure of the original Ilford Imaging Marly-Swiss plant. I put its spectral plot in the Obsolete map of SpectrumViz then. It is a film base medium. The other distributor, Bonjet, that sold it under another label has ceased delivery too. You may have got stock from distributors since but there might be no stock anymore. The Canon spectral plot looks a bit similar, weight is said to be 235 gsm, but I do not think it is available anymore either.

Ilford's Prestige smooth Hi-gloss has several matches.
Pictorico Pro Hi-Gloss white film and Oriental Graphica Hi-Gloss white film has one at 50% less cost then the other two.

Just checked the price and there is way more difference then I thought.

Pictorico 20 sheets 13x19 - $79.99
Graphica 20 sheets 13x19 - $17.20

Print with a dye ink on these films and it has that pure Cibachrome look.

But I wonder if they are similar to Ilford  spectrally.

They are not but what is more important; the gloss or a hardly shifted white point?  Not to mention availability ;-)  OBA content is in all PET gloss varieties, including the Ilford no longer there.
