Recommended Monitor Calibration for Imac
« on: January 14, 2018, 04:21:52 pm »

I have a friend who is an amateur photographer.  She has an Imac.  I suggested she calibrate her monitor, but don't know anything about Mac.  Looking for a low cost ($200) solution for her system:

macOS10.13.2
IMac (Retina 5K, 27 inch, Mid 2015)
Processor 3.3 GHz IntelCore i5
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Startup discMacintosh
HDGraphics AMDRadeon R9 M290 2 GB

Suggestions?

I wouldn't put anything other than X-Rite i1Display Pro on iMac.

There's still a question what backlight type to choose in this case, but that's another story - my wild guess is that GB-LED (RG Phosphor in earlier i1Profiler versions) should be close enough.

DISCUS has poorer agreement with standard observer than i1Display Pro, so it's more display type calibration dependent. I sold mine long time ago so can't check it, but unless there's correction for new Retina iMacs (which is doubtful), it will be much less less exact than its cheaper competitor.

Thanks to all who replied.  My friend has ordered.  Now I just have to show her how to use it.  ;)  She isn't the most technologically sophisticated person you've ever met, but she has a very good eye.

Works great. Tames the excessive contrast and saturation of the stock settings, as well as providing a good overall color balance.
