Thin shooting gloves (pistol, rifle ) for when the actual moment or moments are close~
Inside warmer mitts for the longer term~
Have a cylindrical muff hung at belt with chemical warming packs easily accessed from either right or left openings~
Riding gloves, cold weather, as in motorcycle, horses~
Extremely important, keep your core warm..it determines how much heated blood is allowed to travel to your extremities...heat on those extremities WITHOUT proper circulation is DANGEROUS~
Hydration, hydration, hydration~
There are all kinds of battery operated vests, gloves and socks, but ONLY AS GOOD AS BATTERIES.
WOOL,WOOL, WOOL... excellent quality in thin layers really works.
NO cotton or denim
Excellent insulation between the bottom of your feet and the ground. Don't fill your boots with water.
Let someone know where you are and plan to be if working alone~
COMMON SENSE.
Know really well all the signs and behaviours of hypothermia BEFORE your brain and dexterity desert you...
I could go on and on as I have spent the most enjoyed parts of my life in cold. Motorcycles, horses, snowshoing, skiing, climbing~ they all have their commonalities and distinct individual demands.
Know honestly your health weaknesses.
Know two ways at the start of your adventure every time to self rescue or obtain help should undesirable surprise befall you.
Cover skin... don't fall into the trap of thinking your face or ears are warm or hot. DO NOT STRIP if you feel on fire...you are in trouble and need serious help fast.
Really and truly go out with good awareness and knowledge between the ears.
