4800 question- no enhanced bw with certain papers?
« on: September 22, 2006, 11:05:05 am »

Hello,
i used to print a certain image on premium glossy photo paper with a warm tone set via the enhanced b/w mode. I recently ordered a roll of smooth fine art paper, and when setting the printer driver to watercolor paper - radiant white, as suggested in the manual, i can't choose the enhanced b/w mode. is there a reason for this, or am i doing something wrong?

I vaguely recall that there was either a firmware update or a driver update that addressed this issue, or one very much like it.

hmm, i might be completely dumb, but i'm gonna ask this question anyway: is epson smooth fine art paper a paper you use with the matte black cartridge? i mean, this would explain why i can't select enhanced bw, as the option is only selectable for the media that fits your current black cartridge.

dumb as i might be, while looking for information about the paper i never saw any information which cartridge to use. not even in the instruction manual that was included with the roll.

You hit the nail on the head.

If you are using Epson's Smooth Fine Art paper, you will  NOT see the Advanced Black & White menu. Ultra Smooth Fine Art paper requires the MATTE BLACK ink (MK). Otherwise with photo black (PK) the black will appear dark gray.

Only the resin coated (RC) paper support the Advanced Black function such as Glossy photo and  Epson Premium Luster Photo paper with the Photo Black ink (PK).
