Dry in the High Country - IR and Large Format Photos
« on: December 19, 2017, 11:17:01 pm »

I went to Rocky Mountain National Park Sunday for some hiking and photography.

So far this year we haven't had much snow, at all.  I thought at the higher elevations of some of the trails, that the snow would be better, but it was nearly dry at 10,000 ft.  There was some snow in the shade, but the sunny parts of the trail were dry as a bone.

Snowshoes this time of year is normally a must for this area.  All I needed today was crampons for the icy parts.

I took my digital camera as well as my Zone VI 4x5.

Here are a few digital shots, taken with a Fuji XT-1 and a 720nm IR filter.

Here's a couple of 4x5 Large Format film shots from the weekend hike. The film I used didn't work like it should have (it was a new box), really grainy and some of the shots didn't turn out. These two were all that I got out of the 6 I shot.

Shot using a Zone VI 4x5 and Fujinon SW 125mm F5.6 lens (first photo) and a Kodak Ektar 203mm F7.7 lens with the rear cell removed (second photo). Shot through a #12 filter on Foma 200 and developed in Pyrocat MC for 8.5 minutes.

Thanks for this set. I've always been a lover of alpine vistas and yours are especially nice.

The IR is a nice departure from what we would normally see in RMNP.  Its different, but not toooo different.  Inspires me to break out my IR filter!
